Storage in conditioned repositories
When in one repository many different objects are stored, e.g. including wooden furniture which itself is not emission free, in many cases the depository will be 100% conditioned. It has built-in conservations systems with pollen filters, to clear the air and protect the room against dust, dirt and mould.
Storage in open shelving systems
When the building is provided with a perfect preservation system it is preferred to store the collection in open shelving. In this situation exposure guarantees best preservation as the environment is ideal for optimum conservation.
Storage in closed systems
Closed systems (sliding door cabinets, roller front door cabinets, drawers, show cases) are advisable:
- To increase the protection against dust and dirt when conservation systems are good but not 100%.
- To increase the protection against dust and dirt for objects which are very sensitive to dust and dirt (e.g. textile).
- To protect valuable collections against theft (e.g. silver, coins, jewelry).
- To protect fragile objects against accidental damage when passing (e.g. ceramic).
Show cases
Show cases or glass doors are highly valued. The collection is well protected, but you can keep a good eye on it and enjoy the view.
